Renaissance the Band / CD

Postby Olden Tyme Oaf » Wed Nov 29, 2006 9:27 pm

Hi there Renaissance.

I recall, at Shadow of The Moon PR time that Ritchie alluded to the Ocean Gypsy track, the group it belonged to, and his admiration for the tune ( and band ).His comments were short and sweet, but enough for me to make a mental note to follow it up some day. This i eventually did , hence the CD i traced.

CD itself i simply titled " Renaissance " and is on the Disky record label courtesy of a Heritage release.I understand Heritage have released a number of similar discs for 70/80's groups.I believe the CD is a compilation.

There are 14 tracks, all live recordings, and the last seven are unplugged versions.Ocean Gypsy and the infamous Midas Man are included. If you want a list of all the tracks just let me know, as i have the disc to hand.

Cover has the Band photo , 70/80's style with the Lady ( Annie ? ) in the middle. No inside cover notes though, only track details. No release date that i can find.Cheers.

Oakey ( Peter ).

Renaissance the Band/CD

Postby Olden Tyme Oaf » Wed Nov 29, 2006 9:50 pm

Sorry, only this one disc,no others.

I think the track order is purely the record company's doing. As the tracks do not flow one to the other and there is no interaction between tracks.

Don't think its a bootie, as i got it from either Amazon or Play, and i'm pretty sure Disky/Heritage releases are above board. Not sure.

I can tell though from the vibes why Ritchie and Candice were attracted to the Group.Enjoyable stuff.

PS...I'm Peter also !

Oh...so you didn't unmask me
Thank god
Anyway I actually found out about Renaissance in a used CD store. I was searching for Blackmore's Night and came across this unusual band called Renaissance, so I bought a CD called Azure d'Or and loved the band since then...The CD's are a pain to find and I must go across town to obtain them (and my city is big!)...They're a great band, and anyone I show them to either says "oh they're great!" or "they're good, not my style"...no I hate them's or the likes...which is always nice. :D

Have to agree.

Thinking back to the last time i heard them, i found the music to be a nice balance between rock, folk, and renaissance music.Progressive for its time, with excellent musicianship.

Annie has a superb voice, and i have heard her name and recognise her from the past.Must be the " Classic Rock Newspapers of old i.e " Sounds/NME / Melody Maker etc. )

In my opinion Shadow of the moon and Ghost of The Rose are the best ones, I think SOTM is very fresh and charmy, and GOTR is very professional, quality and contains very good songs.

I think UAVM is on the same way like SOTM, but it isn't as alive as the previous one, it's just simple nice
FAM....It's new, they have could re-new themselves and their musc, but the problem is too studio-flavoured material is hard....but contains very goos pieces
OWL-its opening is very great(from track 1 till Faerie Queen), but I missed the cohesion on the rest of the album.I don't say it is not a good album, but it is too colouress.

I especially love 'Ghost of a Rose' and 'Shadow of the Moon' (which I just listened to Saturday night with some good sangria!) I love them all though and listen to at least a couple of them at least weekly.

I have the 'Castles & Dreams' and 'Paris Moon' DVDs and they are both great, but I prefer Paris Moon, because you can hear how Candice's voice has become richer over the years, and the live version of 'The Village Lanterne' literally sends shivers up my spine. Just beautiful.
